Synopsis

Here comes the bride. There goes the family.

A mother's plans for her daughter's wedding are complicated when her ex-husband, who abandoned the family more than 20 years earlier, shows up.

Watched the next entry in the RMCU (Rue McClanahan Cinematic Universe). This one had fewer plot lines than the previous one, but an extra Paul Dooley as Rue’s good for nothing ex, who shows up to f*ck up the wedding plans of daughter Anne before LITERALLY DROPPING DEAD.
I give this movie half stars for:
    1) Repeatedly trying to convince me that noted lesbian Kristy MacNichol
was at all into the bohemian Adam Scott wannabe they cast as her love interest.
(It didn’t work, but good try, movie!)
    2) The coffin of ol’ deadbeat dad falling into the grave and everyone being like “Oh well! At least he got where he was supposed to go!”
    3) Mary Jo Pehl and Bridget Nelson (I watched the Rifftrax version of this) calling Ted Shackleford Shed Tackleford because both are equally plausible on that actor.

i hate the all-cop acapella group. theyve been outside my window pointing a polaroid camera at me for weeks and they only blink in symphony

Each one of the movies in this trilogy is worse than the one before it. Predictable and atrocious. Although I did laugh hysterically at the funeral scene.

It's sometimes like it never started and it's sometimes like it will never end.

This completes the trilogy of TV movies about Rue McClanahan dealing with her adult children, marrying a younger man, and having a baby. What a journey.

  • Review by QPorcupine ★★

It is actually kind of impressive that they were able to get a whole TV movie trilogy out of the paper thin premise, middle-aged single mother with grown-up children gets married.

If you are into hokey, syrupy-sweet romcoms from the early 90s, this delivers on that, I suppose. The previous film felt over-stuffed with too many sub-plots so this one does feel more manageable, even though it also leaves some of the characters with very little to do.

The relationships between Margaret and John, and Anne and Nick are sweet enough I suppose. The relationship between Mary and Ken is super awkward though, especially with how Ken repeatedly harasses Mary until she agrees to give him a chance. It's one…

it's awful im obsessed with the rue mcclanahan cinematic universe

An attempt to squeeze one last movie out of this cast and backstory, when the first two movies were already thin pickings. It goes about as well as you'd expect.

The abscent father of the future bride drunkenly falls down a flight of stairs and dies right in front of his emotionally scarred jilted ex-wife, her new much younger husband, and the former couple's other daughter as their infant grandchildren are sleeping upstairs.

    Score accompanying the scene: LOL

Another terrible movie. But good Rifftrax 3 1/2

  • Review by Ian A. Chapman ★★

Background television, Mother of the Bride provided a tolerable amount of scenes that linked together enough to form a movie. I cannot recall any specific aspect of it; it’s completely forgettable, even with the Mary Jo and Bridget riffing. I am sure the target audience enjoyed it enough.

  • Review by Rose Esposito 🌹 ★★½

Sweet but forgettable. Probably could've used more jokes. And MAN, does she forgive him fast!
